Embracing our Uniqueness #AtoZChallenge 2015 @AprilA2Z

‘U is for Unique | Positive & Inspired Living A to Z’

We all know that we, as humans, have a lot in common. We are similar biologically and we pretty much feel the same spectrum of emotions too. But the similarity ends there.

We as individuals are unique. Not even one of us is the same as anyone else because we are a combination of personality traits, life experiences, and outlook that no one else has ever had or ever will have. Even twins  who have shared their mother’s womb do not share the exact same experiences. Even if they do, these experiences would be processed and interpreted differently in their heads, and that’s really the only place our reality exists.

Our natural human tendency is to fit in. That’s the way we’re wired. I believe that it is fine to conform at times, so long as we don’t have to give up who we truly are. We can never be everything to everyone. All we should really strive for is to be ourselves, as real beauty lies in being the best version of ourselves –  inside and out. Don’t you agree?

Lots of Love

This post is written for the AtoZChallenge2015.

  1. I remember reading this somewhere and loved it. It says… So you’re a little weird? Work it! A little different? OWN it! Better to be a nerd than one of the herd! 🙂

  2. Oh yes, we’re all unique. Some a bit more than the others 😉

  3. Well put Shantala! But it takes courage to be unique and social pressures to confirm can make one give in…

  4. Trying to fit in is almost equivalent to losing your identity.

    Stay unique, stay weird 🙂

  5. To be able to stay true to what we believe is right makes us unique, it takes courage but is worth it.

  6. Always be true to what you believe in, the world can either like you or not. It is their problem 🙂 Liked your post, well put.

  7. Love it! Only u are the best version of u

  8. I quite agree, all we can really do is strive to be ourselves -our true selves. Thanks for the reminder and for sharing!

  9. Absolutely agree! Even our fingerprints are different and I feel that’s an astounding feature of creation 🙂

  10. Parents want their children to be unique and then expect them to do what everyone else is doing! the fish is expected to fly and the bird is expected to swim!

  11. I second this Shanaya. We need to be ourselves coz everyone is taken:)

  12. Yes, so true. Even in the animal kingdom, each one is unique. No two zebras have the same stripe pattern, no two giraffes have the same markings. Isn’t it amazing?

  13. O I totally agree with it.. and the quote.. it’s terrific..!! If we’ll try to be somebody else, then we might miss out one of the greatest people on earth..!!

  14. “All we should really strive for is to be ourselves.” And on that note we should also accept others as they are, not how we judge they should be.

  15. And how fortunate we are unique. A world of clones would be incredibly dull.

  16. Such is the irony of life. And the quote was spot on 🙂 We live in a truly hypocritical society, right?

  18. What a boring world it would be if we weren’t all a bit different. If only everyone could accept the uniquenesss of others.

  19. We must remember that being uniqe is our strength. Lovely quotes Shanaya.

  22. Interesting. Some times we want to fit in. At other times, we want to stand out from the crowd. Sadly, the really unique ones are often looked upon as rebels and forced to fit in.

  23. Well said, Shantala. Embrace our uniqueness. To to that we must stop comparing ourselves to others. Well written. 🙂

  24. Love the Dr. Seuss quote first of all …better say that before I forget! I like what Rachna had to say about those who are unique seen as rebels who are forced to fit in…sometimes I feel this way! 😉 And I wonder how my identical twin (if she was still alive) and I would have been in terms of our uniqueness. 😉 I love what you say about conformity, ok to “at times, so long as we don’t give up on who we truly are.” Well said! (BTW, you would love my N post with its funny picture on conformity!) 😉 <3

  25. True… each one of us is shaped by our experiences and they are unique. That makes us all unique. Never really understood why we try to fit in.

  26. of course I do agree shantala… and when I did not get any place for my post. I chose to use the word “U” and tried making a post on the inward journey one needs to take, in order to be authentic and original.

  30. I remember when I met my husband for the first time, I told him 2 things:

    1. I would follow my spiritual guide and he must be okay with that.
    2. I wouldn’t have a problem with anything as long as they don’t involve me compromising my values.

Glad to say my individuality is intact after all these years and many thanks to him for enabling that 🙂
