Mother Teresa once said, “If you judge people, you have no time to love them”. We all must have heard this saying several times, but putting it to practice is, well, another thing all-together.
Today, I am sharing one of my favorite stories on judgement. Do read it all the way through and share it with the ones you love. It makes a compelling case against judging people without knowing them.
The 24 year old boy – Anonymous
A few years ago, a 24 year old boy seeing out from the train’s window shouted… “Dad, look the trees are going behind us!”
As his Dad smiled, a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s childish behavior with pity, when suddenly he again exclaimed… “Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”
The couple couldn’t resist and said to the old man… “Why don’t you take your son to see a good doctor?”
The old man smiled and said… “I did and we are just coming from the hospital. My son was blind from birth and he just got his eyesight today.”
*Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you.*
None of us can claim to be totally non-judgmental beings (not me for sure). We all have our prejudices and pre-conceived notions. However, we can try to not let our biases control our words and our actions. Don’t you think?

judgement comes naturally to us; our minds are quick to judge…. I love the quote of Mother Theresa, its is so true, when we judge we have no time to love… Being a counselor I have to constantly learn and keep relearning to put away all my judgemental attitudes in order to help the students who come to our centre. Being Non Judgemental is very important quality of a helper. Thanks for sharing !

So true, Shantala. We must never judge people, we never know what they have been through. I have been very judgmental earlier but now I get past that moment to actually see how it feels for a person being under the microscope. It isn’t a very good feeling. Thanks for sharing ! 🙂

That’s a very touching story. You are spot on about not judging people — everyone has their own story. We don’t know it most of the time. Just because they appear to have it together on the outside, doesn’t mean they are not in pain. Yet, as human beings, we are always so very quick to judge!

Yes, I guess that is our natural tendency, we just need to get better at reigning it in. 🙂

Great quote and story – Shantala. It’s so easy to jump to conclusions.
One of my favourite quotes is “Be kind to people and don’t judge, for you do not know what demons they carry and what battles they are fighting.” – I can’t remember the source though.

Superb short story. I find it very difficult to be non judgmental, especially in the world where everyone judges me by my looks, and body language. It is frustrating. Sometimes I wish I get power enough to make a start to be a better person. In this context, I loved the picture quote.

It is indeed difficult to be completely non-judgemental. But we can certainly make an effort to let it not reflect in our words and actions. Thank you so much for stopping by, Arpita. So glad you liked it. Happy to have come across you through AtoZ. 🙂

So very true. It’s hard to BE non-judgemental and we are subconsciously doing it all the time. Judging people for how they look, how they talk and so on. Your example is a good one.
Never JUDGE a book by it’s cover, is something to remember.

Kelly Martin
Lovely post, I am just catching up with posts now as I had a busy week. I also wrote about judgement, so we are on a similar wavelength. I love the story, I had a friend at college called Neil he was a big fella, he had tattoos everywhere, a huge spider-web on his face, barbed wire tattoo around his neck and if you saw him coming down a dark alley you may walk the other way, but he was the softest loveliest man ever. I try not to judge a book by its cover, sometimes preconceived notions have me judge though and I am pleased when I am incorrect.
